So Texas A&M loses to number one team and beats the 6th ranked team but they aren’t in playoffs. Meanwhile, Clemson beats Miami number 9 or whatever(they suck) and loses to the number 2 ranked team but they are #3 over A&M. Absolutely ridiculous.

For starters don’t lose 52-24 to the #1 team. Clemson went into double OT with the #2 team without their starting QB, two starting LBs, and starting defensive lineman.

What if...

Florida runs the table and beats Alabama.
Clemson beats ND in the ACCCG.
Ohio State runs the table.

1) Ohio State
2) Clemson
3) Florida
4) Alabama

5) Notre Dame

???

A&M lost to that top-ranked team in a blowout. Clemson lost to the second-ranked team in OT (while missing the best player in the country and four starters on defense).

A&M beat that 6th-ranked team in a barnburner. Clemson beat the 9th-ranked team in a blowout.

Not that complicated to understand.
