Generally I am a fan of competition breeding success. But this is a race simply to be first to meet an artificial demand. A race that for so many other viruses is a lengthy and arduous process....for a reason.
In 1976 we had a Swine Flu outbreak. One that was loosely compared by the Gov and media to the 1918 Spanish Flu outbreak (sound familiar?) The FedGOV went ALL IN on creating a vaccine ASAP. Within about 9 months a vaccine was created and there was a big media/government push for mass vaccination. The POTUS was on TV getting the vaccine. About two months later word cam that people started developing Guillain-Barré syndrome likely as a result. The government's vaccination program was suspended, then eventually discontinued.
