If my boss had me on a two year contract (with a crap ton of guaranteed comp) and I stormed into his office demanding he facilitate a move to a competitor, how do you think that conversation would go?

Well if you were good enough the competitor would just buy you out of your contract and you’d move on to them

That depends. What do you do?

Can he fire you today and replace you relatively quickly with someone of approximate skill?

If this was some player on a 2-way contract this wouldn't have even made the news.
