Defensive scheme demanded way too much from a rookie especially with all the break downs on the perimeter. His role last season should have been simple... roaming shotblocker. If the perimeter defense was actually decent, Hayes would have looked infinitely better. Now when our guards get beat off the dribble or off of screens, asking a raw rookie Hayes to make decisions like a veteran is unrealistic. Bzdelik’s scheme is already complicated as is.
