I love living in the sticks. You couldn't pay me enough to move to a major metro. Especially not with the way things are now.
I know what you mean - I had to move back into the belly of the beast in Pearland, TX a southern suburb adjoining Houston to be closer to my medical team at MDAnderson and my daughter. I hate it here, but at least I am in an "over 55" well-maintained gated community that keeps out most of the unwashed. Biggest fault is the postage stamp sized yard.
Prior to that I lived on 3.5 acres of paradise surrounding by a longhorn cattle ranch 7 miles west of the booming metropolis of Buffalo, TX (pop 1500ish.) The whole county had zero Covid cases until a couple of months after I moved in May. Last I heard they had less than 12 cases, no deaths. Dogs and cat ran freely, no sound of traffic, very little light pollution at night, no other house visible, save one rooftop, from anywhere on my property, solid, heads-on-straight, but stand-offish, neighbors.
Ahhh - memories of the good life.
