Yeah others have probably said it but it's been really obvious to me that a large part of the reason democrats have been ok with lockdowns+ government aid checks in response to covid is because they see it as a dry run for the UBI plans they hope to implement.

I don't think so - most of the democratic politicians all balked at UBI. Only fringe democrats like Yang and Gabbard expressed strong support for it. I think the other people that said they were open to it were just trying to siphon off some support from those two in the primary.
