Zinn's greatest sin was acting like this was UNIQUE to Columbus. It wasn't. This was a common practice of the era. The conquered paid tribute to the conquerors and were punished if they couldn't pony up. Kinda like how the Aztec Empire down in Mexico would sacrifice the warriors of defeated nations. But that's different because "culture."
