I daily drive an 07 Gt and had another 07 previously. Mustang forums mentioned earlier are a great resource. Also the spark plug issue got better in 08 with a redesign of the heads so that's something to think about. Mine currently has 158,000 miles and has had an alternator replaced and that's it. Door panel inserts will fall off. Bad design as the backing absorbs glue. I did a tune and JLT cold air that helped with throttle response and also knocked off .2 in the 1/8 with daily driver 91 octane tune and .3 with the race tune. I also went with a Hurst shifter and Ford Racing axleback. I like that it isn't much louder than stock and has zero drone.

The 3 valve 4.6 isn't the most powerful engine made but it's reliable and just fast enough to be fun. I run full synthetic fluids and in 8 years it hasn't given me any trouble. I personally like the looks of the 05-09 better than any Mustang outside of the 69-70 fast backs so I'll probably just keep this one as I have it how I want it for the most part. Car is easy to work on and cheap and easy to upgrade. Stereo is easily upgraded with a double din aftermarket if he is into that kind of stuff.

As far as turning a kid loose in one I understand some concerns but I'm of the opinion its safer than a non sports car for the simple fact that all kids will drive fast and to me it's safer in a car designed for that than a truck or suv. It will stop and corner better than 90% of what's on the road and that helps a lot in accident avoidance.
