Houston to El paso via hwy 90

I am planning a trip to Big Bend and Guadalupe Mts soon. I have been to Ft Davis, Marfa and Big Bend itself. What are the sights more to the East? I am especially interested in Amistad. Does anyone have any tips for the lake? Can I rent a boat there? Are there tours, I have looked online but don't see a lot of info. What about the other stops along the way. I am definitely planning on stopping in Alpine. Thanks in advance.

Regarding Amistad, there used to be a boat rental place out of Rough Canyon (NE quadrant of lake). Googled it and found Lake Amistad Rentals (out of Rough). I don't think boat rentals are currently available on Amistad along the Hwy 90 corridor.
A couple of important notes here...If you did end up renting a boat at Rough Canyon, it is a massively long boat ride from Rough to the area you are likely interested in seeing - the petroglyphs on the western end of the lake (near the Pecos River). I suspect that is a 35-40 mile boat ride one way. You will need plenty of time and gas for that ride. Also, if it's windy, the middle part of the lake (marker 8-12) can be treacherous.
The other issue is the lake a very low right now (46-47 ft ) meaning there are some serious navigational hazards all over the lake - lake is mostly limestone bottom.
My recommendation is to call a local fishing guide for a tour at a discount rate. Normal daily rates for fishing are $400-$450. You can probably get a tour for half that.

Seminole Canyon State Park. I think there are Park Ranger tours available that include petroglyph sites if you're interested. Not sure about the status of this due to COVID.
