I hated Julie's character, but she did a good job of representing a moody and emotionally unstable teenage girl.
Friday Night Lights is overall a very well-written show with complex, developed characters, but it did have a few moments where the writing went off the rails a bit. Like when Julie had a meltdown and drove her car into a mailbox (Season 4, I think) or when Landry and Tyra covered up the self-defense murder of the stalker at the start of Season 2.
Those were cringy moments in an otherwise very grounded and realistic show.

Best to just pretend nothing was put out during the writer's strike, that was a really bad season for otherwise really good shows
