Nope. If UGA hadn't decided to not travel out of the South from 1960-2000 then maybe they'd be recognizable outside the South.

But Stewart Mandel showed an UGA helmet to patrons in a bar in Wyoming and those Cowboys said it was Grambling.

So, no, not a National brand...a very regional brand.

As OP said, Michigan is the clear cut #1 Nationally.

Penn State is probably #2.

Dick Schapp related a story of him riding on some train or subway and some guy was humming Hail To the Victors and Schapp went up to him and said: "oh you're a Michigan Alum?" And the guy said, "no, I just love college football."

For just the nationwide average college football fan, that fight song and uniform symbolizes CFB.
