This is a pretty good preview of LSU's 2008 schedule from SEC Sports Hub. They also have a comment link on the actual article site...

Original Article Per SEC Sports Hub:
SEC Sports Hub - Breaking Down LSU's 2008 Schedule

Breaking Down the LSU Tigers 2008 Schedule
BY: Thomas Goldkamp

SEC Sports Hub stops to take a look at the 2008 schedule for the defending National Champion LSU Tigers. The Tigers face a tough road in 2008 and it will be very difficult for them to duplicate the success they had during their championship run last year.

*Note* The predicted records at the end of each game block are based on the whole season up to that point. For example, SEC Sports Hub is saying that the best possible record for LSU after the first 5 games is 5-0. However, after the first 8 games their best possible record is 7-1. This does NOT indicate they will SEC Sports Hub thinks they will definely lose a game from #6 - #8, but that by that point in the season they will have accumulated at least 1 loss to someone on their schedule.

Game Block #1
8-30 Appalachian State
9-6 Troy
9-13 North Texas

The Tigers should stroll through this first block of games, even despite the fact that they will be breaking in a new quarterback. The first two matchups could be tougher than expected, though LSU has no right to lose either of those games.

The Tigers should be ready for Appalachian State after the Mountaineers pulled off a colossal upset of the Michigan Wolverines in their season opener last year. Expect no such surprises in Baton Rouge this year.

Troy has given some SEC teams trouble over the past few years, most notably causing headaches for both the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs defensively last year. However, without quarterback Omar Haugabook, the Troy offense likely won't be quite as lethal in 2008. Expect the Tiger defense to give up some points, but get it done on the offensive end.

North Texas poses the least threat of any of the Tigers' first three opponents. This should be a tuneup game before a huge trip to Auburn that could decide the SEC West. Coach Les Miles will likely use this game to play his starting quarterback for the Auburn game for the full game. This will give whoever the starter is a chance to get used to playing a full game before one of the biggest matchups of his career. LSU should roll in this game.

Best Possible Record: 3-0
Expected Record: 3-0
Worst Case Record: 3-0

Game Block #2
9-20 @ Auburn
9-27 Mississippi State
10-4 Bye

This is a very important set of games for LSU before they hit the real meat of their SEC schedule. Also, their very first SEC contest, against Auburn, should shape the course of the SEC West for the remainder of the 2008 season.

LSU will be breaking in a new quarterback still when they go to Jordan-Hare to play the other Tigers in the West, but the LSU defense should be more than capable of keeping the Bayou Bengals in the game. If the new quarterback can play mistake free for 60 minutes, the Tigers have a great shot at knocking off Auburn and taking a commanding lead in the SEC West. This game will go a long way towards determining the SEC West, but at this point who wins is pretty much anyone's guess.

LSU shouldn't have a whole lot of trouble with Mississipi State at home, especially given the fact that they have a bye the following week and shouldn't be caught looking ahead. However, after a tough trip to Auburn the Tigers may be worn out and this game could be alot closer than it should be. The thought here, though, is that the Tigers simply have too many horses and Mississippi State doesn't have a good enough passing offense to get by the Tigers.

Best Possible Record: 5-0
Expected Record: 4-1
Worst Case Record: 4-1

Game Block #3
10-11 @ Florida
10-18 @ South Carolina
10-25 Georgia

This is definitely LSU's toughest stretch during the 2008 season and it should make their fans sit on edge throughout. It's highly unlikely that the Tigers come through this stretch unscathed, but there are a few things playing in LSU's favor. First, the Tigers will be coming off of a bye week before they go the Swamp to face the Gators, while the Gators will be playing on the road at Arkansas. Secondly, Georgia has an even more important matchup with Florida following the LSU game and could get caught looking ahead. In any case, LSU will be doing well to pull out two wins from this stretch. They are certainly capable of pulling out all three, but it's fairly unlikely.

The Tigers should be well rested before they head to the Swamp to play one of the most anticipated games of the year. Tim Tebow and the Gators will be looking for revenge after last year's heartbreaker in Death Valley, so the Tiger defense had better be ready for the onslaught. This is probably the most likely loss for LSU in this set of games.

The Tigers trip to South Carolina should be the easiest of these three games, but that's relatively speaking. Williams-Brice is never an easy place to play and with this game sandwiched between games against the two best teams in the SEC, there's no telling how LSU will play. SEC Sports Hub expects LSU to escape Colombia with a very narrow victory.

The visit from the Georgia Bulldogs will be a welcome one for the Tigers after two tough road trips. The Bulldogs are likely to arrive with a ton of hype and that actually bodes well for LSU. Tiger fans seem to get amped for the big games in Death Valley and if this one is at night, Georgia should beware. Assuming the Tigers have lost one of the first two games in this block, Georgia will have an even tougher time beating the Tigers. We expect LSU to at least make a close game out of all three of these contests and LSU is certainly capable of pulling off two of the three.

Best Possible Record: 7-1
Expected Record: 6-2
Worst Case Record: 5-3

Game Block #4
11-1 Tulane
11-8 Alabama
11-15 Bye
11-22 Mississippi
11-28 @ Arkansas

LSU fans should be able to breathe a little bit easier down the stretch. As long as the Tigers are careful about being upset, they shouldn't have a problem with any of these teams except for Alabama and Ole Miss. Tulane and Arkansas should be relatively easy contests and the Tiger could end the season as SEC West Champs if everything goes according to plan.

The Tulane game should give the Tigers little trouble despite the in-state rivalry associated with this game. The Tiger offensive line shouldn't have nearly as much trouble handling the Tulane defensive line as they did in 2007 and at worst, the Tigers should pull away in the second half again.

The return of former coach Nick Saban to Death Valley with his new team should make for some great storylines and media coverage. LSU fans will be licking their chops for this one and you can bet Les Miles will have his players pumped up and ready to go. Alabama probably doesn't stand much of a chance in this game, but after giving LSU a tough game last year, they could surprise with another strong outing. Nick Saban will be looking for a victory in Baton Rouge, so don't cross this one off the calendar just yet.

After a bye week, the Tigers will be rested and ready to deal with what should be a pretty good Ole Miss team by this point in the year. Ole Miss will likely be battling to be in the top half of the SEC West and will be looking for an upset bid of the Tigers. With the offense and defensive line that the Rebels have, LSU has to be careful not to overlook this one. The last time the Rebels were in town they took the Tigers to overtime.

The final road trip of the season for the Tigers will land them in Little Rock, Arkansas, where the Razorbacks will most likely be finishing up a disappointing season. However, this traditional post-Thanksgiving matchup is usually a close one and we've come to expect nothing less than a thrilling game over the past few years. LSU should pull this one out and should have a much more comfortable win than they have over the past 3 years.

Best Possible Record: 10-2
Expected Record: 9-3
Worst Case Record: 8-4

What's up traitor?

How's the SECtalk folk doing these days? I had to get out. The Bama lemmings were annoying and tiresome. I'd like to make a Gainesville trip but we'll see.

Ramp: I hear ya. I'm actually kind of parting ways with SECTalk, although I'm sure I'll still venture over there every now and then.

I agree with that prediction. We pull out some of those big games and we could be back in the big dance.

Yeah, I personally think LSU has a much better chance of going 10-2 than 8-4. And really when I think about it if they get by Auburn, there's no reason they shouldn't go 10-2, or even 11-1...

I kind of agree with your record, but I do not think a loss will come in "Block 4".

If a third loss happens, it will be earlier

He was using a cummulative record from the block before.

Once he predicted a loss in one block, the best possible record from THEN on was __ and 1....___and 2....etc.

How is the best possible record 10-2? That makes no sense. It ruins a decent analysis. obviously, the best posible record is 12-0, though highly unlikely.

And I still don't get all the love for Auburn, who is also starting a pretty green QB, has a new OC, and doesn't have the returning talent at skill positions that LSU does. If LSU's QB plays flawlessly, they have a good CHANCE to beat Auburn? If our QB plays flawlessly, we'll beat AU by 21+. Well, unless the refs pull some more stunts.

I just simply don't understand the love for Ole Miss. To say they will finish in the top half of the SEC West is bullshite. I'm calling it right now: Miss. State will be a hell of a lot tougher than Ole Miss. Plain and simple. Mark it down.

I largely agree.... best case record i could see 11-1 if they hold serve with uga, bama, usc and win one at fla or auburn... but the realistic expectation should be 9-3 or 10-2
