Usually put them on while sitting on the bay window and leave them next to where I sit when taking them off. Always a transition from flip flops I wear around the house (only go barefoot in the upper tri-level/bedrooms.) If I'm coming in wearing boots it's in the sun room which is where we enter from the garage.
I roll my eyes at people who get all worked up over taking 1 step (even with relativity clean tennis shoes) into a living room. My maternal grandma was that way and it drove me nuts.

I wear shoes in the house, technically, as in I don't take them off immediately once at the door step. On the other hand, I never wear shoes in my house. As soon as I can sit down, I'm taking off my shoes to put on my slippers.
I hate people who make you take off your shoes before you can go in their house. I always find it pointless and stupid.

If your shoes are obviously muddy, dirty, or wet. It makes sense to take your shoes off at the door. But taking your shoes off at the door otherwise just because is entirely pointless to me.

I’m not Asian... so I wear them inside like a civilized American.
