My high school girlfriend dumped me within 6 weeks of our enrolling at LSU. 30 years later I don't miss her so much as I miss what our care-free lives were like in high school and assumed would continue to be in college and how abruptly it changed. Her mom was like a 2nd mom to me and she did some work to get us back together and I was too hurt- her daughter dumped me and I was too proud and too hurt to consider it. Then when I found out my ex was getting married right out of college I was thrown for a real loop and realized how she had moved on and I hadn't.
The worst part was this sweet lady who loved me like a son wound up dying of breast cancer within 10 years of my graduating and moving out-of-state for grad school and one of my biggest regrets was being too proud to stay in touch. I would have loved to have seen her one more time. Rest in peace Mrs. M.
Maybe all of that to say it there's more to it than getting over just the Ex...
