Outside of the economic benefits for some with a vaccine, the major scientific issue is we don't know how long the immune response is for CV19. This is particularly an issue with asymptomatic cases. As an example, let's consider the immune response is present for 12 months, with a vaccine it is easy to get a yearly booster where without a vaccine that person would have to be reinfected and fight the disease off again to renew the immunity.
Outside of some miracle where the virus goes away or mutates to become more benign a safe effective vaccine is still the best way to put COVID 19 behind us.
