It would have been significant to match the dates, but not feasible. My dad fought on Okinawa. He always told me that he had written orders in hand following the taking of Okinawa for a full scale invasion of Japan. Thank God they dropped the bombs when they did. The death toll on both sides would have been massive if they waited until December.
