I would escalate, but I have been involved in litigation before concerning a neighbor and a tree. I know what to expect.
It depends on what your definition of escalation is, I guess. When I had my issue I was 24 and it was my first home. Me and the boys may or may not have found some fun and interesting ways to frick with that crusty old bastard.
