You want pants filling bear encounters, check this one out from the Highline Trail in Glacier. This is at a section of the trail that's maybe not more than 3-4 ft wide and as you can see it's virtually straight down to certain death if you slip. We hiked this and I was puckered up just passing other people on there.
This dude encountered a huge grizzly on that sucker with nowhere to go, so he risked his life climbing down onto a small outcropping.
Here's a picture I took from that section on our hike showing what he was trying to scale down for "safety".

To the right of the bear, at about the only place on that section where a person could leave the trail without plummeting to his or her death, is a man in a white shirt, hiding behind a boulder.
“It was taken 15 seconds after they spooked each other,” Granrud says. “You could see the bear jump, and you could almost hear the guy go, ‘Oh, crap.’ Then they stood still, watching each other. I could see the guy look over his shoulder like he was thinking about going back, but that really wasn’t a choice.”
Instead, Granrud says, the man “scrambled” over the cliff, down a tenuously small and steep rockslide, and took refuge behind a boulder.

He’s about 10 feet below the trail – and approximately 15 stories above Going-to-the-Sun Highway.

It wasn't that trail, but a similar portion on the Grinell Glacier Trail where a few years ago a guy and his daughter were mauled by Grizzly. Both of them had to jump off the cliff to a ledge below to avoid being eaten alive. And the father (after listening to his daughter being attacked) had to make a second leap of faith after the bear climbed down and attacked him again.
Thankfully they survived. You can read, or watch videos, of their terrifying account online. I'm glad I read about that attack after I visited GNP, otherwise I might not have gone. Or I might not have done the Grinell Glacier hike, which is one of the best hikes I have ever done.
