I don't think his issues had much to do with the NFL organization that he was with. He was a ticking time bomb that as soon as money was added went off.

Also, Russell has said that when his uncle the radio DJ died, he was like a father figure to him. Imagine getting $30 million dollars when you are 22yrs old and you move out to California with no structured system in place that makes you accountable to workout, watch film, get better....then you father figure dies and you have weight issues etc.
Most 22yr olds would just mail it in too after getting that payday. He’s completely responsible for not working hard but it’s also not really surprising.
