Risk/reward may not be there. Don’t take it, there are other defense firm jobs or you can do your own thing or go PI or whatever.
Take it, pass, keep your job.
Take it, fail, lose your job.
Don’t take it, lose defense job, still licensed, find something else.

I'd likely take it just because I'd always have that feeling in the back of my mind that I was being looked down upon or judged because of circumstance
I would 100% be self-conscious about being a new lawyer with no bar passage under my belt
