So, when he went to the store, he was going to hide a stolen truck, or engine?
The claim that people were making, was that it was an obvious drug deal gone bad( as seen on TV) and Dad really left the scene, to go hide evidence, and not really to go find help.
Old Dad, was supposed to pick his grown Son up throw him in the truck, and rush him to the hospital. Just like in The Movies.
