So bringing in American baseball players for three days to play a game outdoors that has relatively little physical contact is too dangerous because of Coronavirus. However it is perfectly okay to have American hockey players staying in Toronto (and Edmonton) for six to eight weeks playing a game indoors with lots of physical contact?
I would say the main issue is the travel in and out of Canada/various cities rather than the nature of the sport being played or the nationality of the players.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the participating NHL teams will be staying in Toronto and Edmonton, and all players will be confined to a "bubble" area. This is not true for the Blue Jays.
MLB is playing a fairly traditional 7-day home stand/7-day roadie schedule with teams visiting two cities on their road trips.
