I was shopping yesterday and encountered a black family, the women and kids anyway, all wearing masks. Looked like mom, grandma, two little girls and little boy.
I was right next to them with my wife while she was picking up a couple new pairs of flip flops for the kids, and mom and grandma started up a nice conversation with us and were very pleasant and we all laughed a lot complaining about the declining quality of footwear. Wife and I were not wearing masks and it sure didn't seem to bother them a bit, though weren't exactly right in each others faces. We were probably 4-6 feet apart at all times during the chat.
Should have prefaced this by saying this was a town in central Oklahoma that's demographics are about 55% white, 35% black, 10% other.
Shopping there, I haven't had anyone look at me sideways or anything for not wearing a mask since this all started.
I don't assume anything about people wearing masks. After conversation, I can reasonably speculate that the black family was likely wearing the mask as a precaution because they are all clearly very close to grandma and love her a great deal. She was getting around a little slow, in the "at risk" age bracket and a bit overweight, so I figured an abundance of caution by the family was not overkill at all.
