So our family has a early 2000s model Chris Craft 262 Sport Deck. Ran great all weekend but of course wouldn’t start when it came time to load it up yesterday. Trying to troubleshoot a bit but having no luck.
1) batteries charged for 12+ hours using the onboard charger and both show charged (didn’t have a battery tester)
2) thought ok maybe it happened to run out of fuel at the dock so added 10 gallons
3) ok so battery and gas in boat so maybe it isn’t getting gas so changed the fuel filter. Did see a small amount of trash in there. Didn’t change the fuel pump but is a consideration.
4) confirmed oil level is good

When you turn the engine over it sounds like it wants to start but just doesn’t. Once it started then sputtered out which makes me think that it is fuel related. The one thing that strikes me is that when I turn the key I get three beeps. I know with mercury 2 strokes the 3 beep usually references either low oil, low battery, or a water pump issue. However I can’t find anything on the Volvo Penta 5.7 or Chris Craft beep codes.

It is in the water in Belle River and putting this son of a bitch on a trailer without power will be tough. Any recommendations for things to try and/or a local mechanic who could scope it out would be appreciated.

Interesting question. So we have actually never had the switch hooked up or used. That said when we brought it to someone the Wednesday before he asked the same question and said that could be a problem if not being used.

I need to see how to secure it to ensure it is in fact working as expected/planned. I know in a past life, and with my jetski there is a plastic piece that is used to basically engage it and once pulled off it kills the engine. However I have never seen a kill switch plastic guard (sorry for the lack of technical lingo) so will look/google for one.

ETA: just went and checked and the button itself is fully out. Assuming it reduces the likelihood that it is the cause but honestly no clue.
