I don’t even think this, though it’s a good point, is the real issue. There are only a couple of hundred black men killed by police every year, and most of them are in shootouts and stuff. The real problem is the amount of harassment the average black man has to put up with. It’s got to be humiliating, and any proud man would rebel at that.

I grew up in Metairie where Sheriff Harry Lee’s policy was to harass black men walking in white neighborhoods. On the one hand, this is horribly unfair to upstanding black men. On the other hand, had Harry Lee not done that our neighborhoods would have been overrun by lawlessness. So we had two rights clashing and a very real dilemma.
