It just doesn’t make sense for a game like this not to have meaningful choices (i.e kill Abby or not). That’s why Dishonored is such an underrated series to me.
Also Joel’s death felt forced. First of all he wouldn’t give out his name like that. He also would have put up much more of a fight despite the surprise leg blast and would have taken some of them with him.

I mean it makes sense considering how Ellie wanted to give her life up nobly for all of man kind only to discover what Joel selfishly did to save her right? To save Abby means “ hey I understand why you killed Joel and I think I can right the wrong of all of this by saving your manly arse!”
