Whenever the FICHT motor came out I’d guess. I’ve been a Merc dude my whole life, except one Johnson Stinger that was a pain in my arse, so I don’t really know. The last 20 years or so you just don’t see many down here and baws run what they like. Evil rude hasn’t been in that game

The fict was definitely a piece of shite and the etec is an evinrude in name only. It's a shame in general that 2 strokes (particularly the optimax) have gone away totally. The optimax was a great option for people who wanted to go fast, needed a light motor, or could deal with some noise to save some money. The end of the optimax was a horrible day in the world of recreational boating.

Eta: and it was cleaner running than any 4 stroke out there

I had a 1998 Ficht 175. After the second blown powerhead, OMC and I had a little come to Jesus meeting and I got the next generation (Ram) in a 200, and its still humming along. Gets good fuel economy and not nearly as heavy as a 4 stoke that size (although they have gotten lighter).
