Based on this I would say you should move and try it. It's a low risk proposition. Not only could you always move back, but if you are in tech you will be coming back with more panache on your resume if it has silicon valley on it.

Depending on where in SJ the business is even 2 hours is a stretch until you save up a nice down payment. You can find little enclaves fo McMansions for around $450k but they're isolated and have high HOA fees, like this one, or maybe a rugged house out in the woods that is only an hour away.
You may want to just consider this as a temporary adventure of sorts and just plan to rent.
