By the early 1900's rich people learned that they could buy our politicians and parlay it into fortunes. By 1990 foreign countries realized the potential, and have been buying Bushes, Clintons and Obamas for gazillions of dollars. Before that the Saudis were the only ones who had figured it out.

I agree that the Dems are in the Chinese and Russian pockets, but so are the republicans. Vote for outsiders whenever possible. Also, insist that your representatives will repeal the special privileges that congressmen get.
