People say drive for show and putt for dough....but I’ve always found the game to be easier when I’m a wedge/small iron out in the fairway on my second shot as opposed to taking a drop and hitting my third shot from 200 yards out and needing to bend it around trees.

I took lessons from Monte Scheinblum
He said - and I trust this - they have done studies that the number one thing you can do to lower your scores is to get longer with the driver
Like the OP said... and I’ve experienced this since I started playing: the game gets easier and IMMENSELY more fun when you are playing driver then scoring iron/wedge instead of driver then hybrid/4i every hole.

People used to say that, but the strokes-gained era has flipped it on its head.
Driving is the most important skill in golf. There shouldn't be much debate about that any longer. As one example, the guys who do best at the highest levels are great drivers of the ball who occasionally get hot with the putter and not the other way around.
