Had a 1986 F-150. Put premium in it a couple of times. It told me to knock that shite off. Ran better with regular.

A lot of "non-high performance" engines are engineered specifically for regular (87 octane) gasoline. Very commonly this is true for Ford trucks, although I can't speak for very recent ones.
