I'm planning on using hi-yield sethoxydim in my centipede lawn to knock out some bermuda grass. I was going to fertilize next week as well. My question is about the proper order and timing to weed treat, fertilize, water, & mow. New to this so I'm trying to get everything in order as to not destroy my grass by doing it incorrectly.

Spray the weeds out now and get a soil sample, if possible. Then fertilize after you have mowed a couple of times and the grass is fully out of dormancy. Centipede doesn't need a lot of nitrogen throughout the year.

I don’t think it matters what order you do it - one activity should not effect the other at this time of year. If you are in New Orleans I’m sure your centipede and bermudagrass are fully greened up. Mine are in Baton Rouge. You can do one activity in the morning and the other in the afternoon if you want, or wait a day between activities, but let the herbicide dry if you do it first before fertilizing.

Follow label directions on the sethoxydim. Do you have the oil concentrate to mix the sethoxydim with?

Alright great. That's what I was hoping to hear. I ordered Hi-Yield Grass Killer and Southern Ag Surfactant. Is there anything else thst I should get before I start treating?

Well the surfactant is not the same as the oil concentrate, but to to be honest when I first used sethoxydim I used surfactant as you bought, out of ignorance more than anything, and as I recall it worked fine killing Bermudagrass in centipede without any adverse effect to the centipede. But I now use the oil concentrate specified by the sethoxydim label. Like this LINK

The only other thing is when fertlizing centipede - apply 0.5 lb of N per 1000 sq ft vs the 1 lb of N recommended for St Augustine and Bermudagrass. For example if you have a 24-x-x lawn fertilizer apply 2 lbs of fertilizer per 1000 sq ft ( divide 50 by 24= 2.08, just round off to 2). So divide the first number (N) on the fertilizer analysis and divided into 50 for your application rate for whatever lawn fertilizer you bought. You can make a second application in June if you feel the lawn needs it, but it’s not necessary. Centipede does not like heavy fertilization and over application can actually harm centipede over time.

Great. Just ordered it. I appreciate the assistance. Bought my first house about a year and a half ago, newly sodded, so this is my first true summer having to deal with weeds and increased lawn maintenance. Tons I have to learn.
