From what I've read these places have a lot of small wooden cages stacked on top of each other with many different types of animals in them. Some of the animals are alive and they kill them on the spot and some are already dead and they may be dripping blood and puss on some of the other live animals. It just sounds truly disgusting to me.

Don't the Chinese stack pigs in cages and just feed the top

Crawfish live on the bottom?

I went to a market in Japan and it was gross I can only imagine

Its horrifying. The video is tough to watch, of the market I saw.
