Mawmaw was a little girl during the Spanish Flu of 1918. She said once a day a truck would drive through the neighborhood and anyone that was sick got placed on the truck and taken to a gym setup with beds as a medical ward.

If you recovered they put you back on a truck and sent back home.

You went alone. No family and no visitors. She was one of the lucky that got to ride the truck home.
