Okay, you got me there. I would accept this answer. (if they knowingly found a way to query the simulation.)
Otherwise, there's no reason for video to be that grainy if you've mapped out every particle already. It's also virtually impossible to map every particle that way without having a computer the size of the solar system, or bigger.

One could say the same thing about any major corporation, or political regime. How did Wells Fargo’s code of ethics pan out in real world practice?
Sure, but the very thing they are refraining from doing inside of Devs would enable them to fix almost all new/future problems outside of Devs.

Altered Carbon
Nothing in Altered Carbon has the laws of physics preventing it from happening. The only thing about AC that trips me up is the concept that you can "move" consciousness in to a disc. For most, that's more of a philosophical question and not a big hangup.

That's supernatural stuff. Movies where people have supernatural powers get a pass because they're not pretending to be anything else, or they're being campy.
There's an art to knowing when you suspend disbelief on this stuff. Wouldn't you be turned off if all of a sudden James Bond froze time with his mind to escape a situation? It wouldn't mean that you dislike movies where they frick with time.

If it’s a quantum code it probably deals with similar quantum type problems. For instance, the quantum superposition issue, where a particle is said to be in many states at one time. It’s possible that that alone is causing it to be difficult to make clearer images.
shite gets weird at the quantum level
ETA: also, the end of 2001 is what I was talking about, not HAL. The alien facility, floating fetus baby in a Buddha pose
