The Founders made the original amendments out of concern to prevent another monarchy. Freedom of Speech was one of the most important reasons the revolution started, as nobody could insult the Crown or any of it's officers. Not being able to create unpopular speech effectively left the colonies with no representation toward England.
This is not to say other countries shouldn't adopt our laws, but perhaps their creators never really thought along the lines of protecting unpopular speech since it was a pertinent issue at the time.
