Ross Chastain DNQ'd for the Xfinity Series race because the Kaulig Racing cars had totally screwed up left front brake hubs, resulting in slow qualifying speeds. AJ Allmendinger, also driving for Kaulig, also missed the race. Only one Kaulig racing car, their main car #11, got in.

Ross will race, however, as Jeff Green will give up his Sieg Racing seat in the #38 car and let Ross drive the #38.

Pretty strange deal.

That happens more often than you realize, especially at Daytona and the first few races of the season. Chastain will be in his car but running Green’s car number. There is a program in Nascar called the ABC program where if you sign up to run the the entire schedule you get paid more than if you only run a partial schedule. I qualified for the Busch race at Richmond in 95 but got run into coming on pit road in the final practice. It tore up the car pretty good and I didn’t have a backup car. I sold my starting spot to one of the team’s that failed to qualify for $50k. They had to run my number and start at the rear but their driver got the driver points. And I had enough money to get home....

If you’ve ever looked at the drivers positions and earnings after a race, some drivers will make way more money than certain drivers that finish ahead of them because of the ABC program. At least that’s how it used to work.
