he was not the official covering the play.. as the white hat his sole responsibility on that play-once the pass was thrown - was the QB - nothing else. He can't call what he didn't see - if he was looking downfield watching the receiver and DB - he would not have been doing his job and would not be in the super bowl.
the 2 names that should live in Saints fan hatred forever are Patrick Turner & Gary Cavaletto
those were the 2 who missed the PI in that game
Vinovich gets the hate b/c he's the white hat and thus the crew chief, even though that area of the field is nowhere near his domain
neither Turner nor Cavaletto, to my knowledge, worked any postseason games this year
Cavaletto, however, was on Vinovich's regular season crew for this season
ETA: Turner was the 1 who had a thought about throwing the flag, but backed off... Cavaletto was the one who ran in demonstrably waving incomplete, which may have affected Turner's thought process about throwing his flag

Correct. They were demoted in their ranking.

Also correct. Those saying he should have overturned the no call don’t understand officiating mechanics. At no point should he be looking downfield. The only way you should overturn a call is if you have a clear view on the play, which he did not have and should not have been looking at anyway
Lots of misinformation about that crew and officiating in general
