I did:

- No state income taxes
- No corrupt "assessments" aka shakedowns
- Significantly lower tax burden
- No $100+ billion pension liability
- No extreme liberal politics
- It's not freezing cold 8 months out of the year
- Closer to family & friends
- Better career prospects
- Friendly business environment

Luckily, Dallas is about as bland as you can get. He should have no problems adjusting.
