But, how is that meaningful if neither have lost and neither have really been close to losing a game? It doesn't seem like it is really. Maybe one team was trying different wrinkles in the games they were winning and that accounts for it. Who the hell knows?

I'm not sure I understand how inconsistent stats amongst games that are ALL WON, versus another team that puts up consistent stats and wins, necessarily is any sort of indicator that one of those teams may be better than the other.

Yes you are sure, you use this method of measurement in comparing any two teams that haven't played. You do this all the time - we all do.
