Sir you are a liar! Russell was a great dual threat high school QB, thus the 5 stars. However, he was never, ever hyped for the strength of his arm. Never. You might have him mixed up with another QB you have grouped together in that group in your mind, Brandon Harris. Brandon had great arm talent as did Jarrett Lee. Unfortunately for both and every other QB recruited out of high school by Les Miles, they were never fully developed.

Russell in a Rich Rodriquez type offense would have been a very effective QB. But that would take a coach who adjust his system to the talent on hand. Harris developed by Clemson or Jimbo Fisher would have been an excellent QB. Lee developed at Michigan, Stanford or Georgia would have been a great QB. If Lee wasn’t afraid of getting hit, he would have thrived. I would have live no red jersey practice with Lee to let him know he wouldn’t die if hit hard. Les Miles neutered Harris. He went from gunslinger to afraid to pass for fear of an interception. Miles never allowed Shepard to throw a single pass.

Burrow is a perfect example of how a scheme and coaching can effect the success of a QB. Last year Burrow’s numbers were pedestrian. Very similar to Harris’ numbers his sophomore season starting. Burrows numbers probably would have been worse under Miles’ more conservative turnover adverse offense. This year, under a QB friendly scheme, he is leading candidate for the Heisman. He was the same QB last year. Yet this fan base demonizes QBs who played for Miles. All of whom were 4 stars with lots of potential before Les Miles got a hold of them.

An example of the Miles’ effect on a QB, is Harris’ stats decreased each year under Miles. Completion percentage, average yards, and QB rating all went down each successive year. QB development should see the numbers improve, not decline. That’s an indication of negative QB development. Harris came in a gunslinger with confidence and swagger. He left a nervous wreak, afraid of the turnover and with no confidence. He was a shell of himself.

To claim Bowe was responsible for Russell’s success is pure ignorance. And doesn’t deserve a response.
