I've always found this interesting. I've lived in all types of housing and generally speaking I've found that the closer people live to each other, the less friendly they are with their neighbors.

Probably has to do with everyone being so temporary. Lots of people moving in and out. Also, in the scenario if you have thin walls and can hear them you're probably thinking 'frick those people'.
