non-hyperbolic,
On this board, not going to happen. Not enough people on here know or understand the game to make educated, rational, well represented, non-hyperbolic statements. How many on here actually strapped on the pads on the HS varsity level? How many learned terms and techniques, scheme's, drills? From what I've seen on here, not many. So you will only get non-hyperbolic comments from a very small percentage. Let me add, you can still know and understand the game even if you never played. If you studied the game and learned. Just saying, most on here have not learned the game and didn't play the game. And some of those make the dumbest, most uneducated and insulting comments, simply because they have no idea wtf they are talking about.
That being said. This defense is young at certain positions, young and no depth, like CB. One veteran and the rest true freshmen. As good as Stingley is, he is still a true freshman and it shows at times. At other positions there's a lot of talent, like Dline, but not much quality depth. And that's a position you really need a solid 2 deep. LSU just doesn't have it. That hurts in the 2nd half when starters are getting weary and you bring in backups that are not nearly as good. same thing with the LBing group. You have some good starters, but after that there isn't a lot of depth. Especially now that Divinity is gone. You are forced to bring in a true freshman to start. There's a lot of talented LBer's, but you have one really good one and 2 or 3 good, but no great and not much depth. Safety is basically the same thing.
LSU just doesn't have the depth on defense to maintain a high level of play for 4 quarters.
