He truly looks like a grown man playing against 7th graders... even the D Linemen.

He’s great, but 10 more pounds and improve his blocking and he’s even better...
Where does this come from? He doesn’t need to gain a pound to play in college or the NFL! He’s a pass catching TE who fits perfectly with what LSU and most of the NFL is doing with that position can’t wait for him to be in the P&G!!

Men that big should not move that fast

Thad Moss is a solid blocker, but you got it all figured out...

He takes off and explodes down the field like a much smaller player. Lol It will be interesting and really fun to watch him and Rakim Jarrett next season, 2 really explosive players in LSU's new passing attack. I'm just sorry to see that Joe won't be around next season to throw to them.

Don’t worry man, I got ripped to shreds for saying Ika needed to lose weight last year, ended up being obvious.

it's funny seeing a 6'5" monster run a screen out of the backfield

I read posts for years, but was watching Arik play tonight and got super excited. Then I came here to read about the young man and posted. Boom!!!! I’m crazy...
The likes of Travis Kelce and Greg Olsen weigh 255 so why not make that status quo. Well, Arik is a stud and should not be limited based on where he is today... maybe
he shouldn’t be 265 cause Jason Whitten is terrible at that weight... lol
Doesn’t matter what we think, the experts being the LSU coaches will make it work... I have friends that do strength training with pro football players here in Atl and I get there is a fine line with optimum weight. Was a little surprised how fast some get “triggered” for nothing...

Get him and Kole Taylor and they'd be a fricking red-zone nightmare!!! This recruiting class though, man, there's a whole lot of really talented dudes wanting in.

I wish that I could make a political party affiliation but cannot... lol
Maybe I used the term incorrectly, i think of those as “triggered” as they will argue no matter what you say and are set off easily... they will argue for their own amusement... no political reference should have been implied...
I just care about LSU winning games in all sports...

Gilbert weighed in at 253 over the summer. He’s as big as he ever needs to be right now.

Really? So he’s a long limbed and big young man... he cannot gain to be even MORE elite? Don’t disagree with you on current size, it’s there you are right...
I’m sitting here watching him on the news... he clearly is humble, and can see he can see himself improve... this guy is a huge TE pickup for the Tigers!!!
I’ll be watching him locally next weekend, it will be a great game...
I would like to see a better TE recruit we’ve had... Everyone carries weight different and based on his current speed a little size will only help and will happen naturally anyway!
Cannot wait for what’s to come....

He’ll naturally add another 10-15 pounds through the maturation process which is good but there is no need to actively try to put more weight on him as a 6’5 250 pound 18 year old. I’ll bet he’ll be in that 265 range come sophomore year just from routine college weight program and maturing a little more physically.
He’s far from Myles Brennen comin in where he should have been drinking milkshakes and eating peanut butter at every opportunity.

Wow!
For a big guy, he sure is fast and smooth.
He will FEAST in LSU's offense.
