Very cold air rushing in on the backside of the rain could drop temps
below freezing in the lowest few thousand feet of the atmosphere in
portions of southwest Mississippi and adjacent Louisiana parishes
Tuesday morning. A large warm layer aloft will keep any snow from
developing, but the shallow cold layer could help mix a few sleet
pellets for a couple hours Tuesday morning before all the moisture
exists. No frozen precip impacts expected. The actual impact coming
will be the first freezing event of this fall season. Continued
cloudiness and strong cold air advection will limit warming on
Tuesday. A few places on in northern portions of the CWA along the
SW MS border may not warm more than a few degrees all day. Going
into the overnight period, some models suggest we`ll pass the first
freeze and just go straight to hard freeze. ECMWF forecast lows for
Wed morning from I-12 northward are generally 20 to 25 degrees. That
seems a bit too cold since models shows 925 temps rising
considerably Tuesday night and there`s very little snowpack in the
mid section of the country. For those reasons, feel MAV and NBM have
a better handle on forecast low temps, which are still right at
record lows for the date. Thus, expect freeze and/or hard freeze
watch coming out tonight or tomorrow for Tuesday night.

I’ve been watching them lower those lows tomorrow night/Tuesday morning with a decent chance of rain. Awfully close to an ice event but I don’t think we have to worry. I’m sure the bulk of the precipitation will be well before temps get to their lowest, anyway.
