.260 Remington is a great caliber for youth. Recoil is light to moderate depending on the gun. Rounds are easy to find at local stores. It has great ballistics and carries a punch. He’ll be able to use it for rest of his life.
I bought my son one last Christmas. He’s killed 3 deer and 7 hogs with it. Longest trailing job was about 30’.
