Toronto has had the potential to play like this all year, and they showed occasional, fleeting glimpses of high quality. But it was like they sleepwalked through the season, then woke up to kick some arse in the playoffs. They didn’t even win the Canadian Championship this year for the first time in a while.
Brian Schmetzer is a great playoff manager. He always seems to press the right buttons and get Seattle humming for the playoffs. Not that surprised they pulled this off again. I thought they were potentially trouble for LAFC once the draw was set.
I’ll be interested to see how aggressive Seattle is with their fullbacks against Toronto. Schmetzer likes to press them really high up. Sometimes Seattle basically plays with just two in the back when they high press. Other managers would play cautiously, but I think Schmetzer will just go for it at home.
