the one area that they left has failed miserably to infect is the military. Whenever I see leftists talking about citizens resisting things like gun confiscation and saying you can't fight the military, the servicemen are not going to slaughter their own neighbors for standing up for the Constitution, neighbors who they also by and large agree with. Even if they get the order from some leftist officer like "general fully semi auto"
This used to be the case but, as a veteran with a ton of ties to the pulse of the current military, this has shifted some in the past ten years.
You must remember that Obama sought to fundamentally change the makeup of the U.S. military by first expelling as many conservative generals as possible ... and he accomplished that mission. Then he went down the officer chain of command removing field grade officers due for promotions and purging junior officers who were basically graded on a Soviet type party system, then tagged to be rifted under the guise of an reduction of forces.
NCOs were next.
At the same time, if you will remember, military advertising targeted minorities for a solid eight years touting retirement packages and benefits for life without stressing the true purpose of a military career .... the defense of the nation and patriotism.
Subsequently what we have today is a military largely comprised of clerks and bureaucrats who balk at the prospect of going to war ... some even willing to protest against such orders and get away with it.
Additionally you had women allowed to dilute combat arms units and many even have acted as disrupting spies who not only report patriotism as a radical ideal but also regularly have good officers and NCOs ousted under false pretenses of sexual abuse or racism.
Now, accordingly the combat arms units have shrunk in size. It is the combat arms troops, the shooters, who have remained predominantly conservative and patriotic while it is the clerical and support troops who are now largely liberal progressive and I am absolutely confident that this split is reflective of the general population ... about 50/50.
Spiritual sabotage is rampant. Combat arms units are under supported and frustrated. Officers and NCOs have their hands tied. Physical fitness is waaaaay down among non combat arms units. Overall general esprit de corps has suffered.
The positive side of all of this is that Trump is changing things as best he can. He's raising the standards again but he's having to walk a fine line. And enlistment is down as are officer candidates worthy of wearing the uniform and leading troops.
Here are two good articles on Obama's purges ....
