Only thing about a bottom freezer is the ice maker is in the refrigerator portion. I think this is part of the problems that these refrigerators have. Otherwise, I don't see any issues with them, nor any reason they wouldn't last any less amount of time than any other type or style. A side by side makes the least amount of usefulness of its space, due to the top to bottom divider between the two sides, rather than the shorter side to side divider a top or bottom freezer type refrigerator has.
