Bob Dylan called him the most under rated song writer.... I guess Bob has a dark side lol

Never understood the fascination with Rush’s lyrics. To me they have often seemed clunky and forced. “Subdivisions” is awesome musically, but lyrically it sounds like something a junior high D&D nerd would have written. Not that there’s anything wrong with junior high D&D nerds - I was one myself - but they aren’t really noted for their keen social insights.
I’ll go off the beaten path and throw in Beck. His lyrics are excellent surrealist/Dadaist poetry set to music. He manages to make a bunch of nonsense sound like it should mean something, which is a lot harder to do than it seems.

Unless I missed it, how has no one mentioned Iron Maiden yet?

Ih the Beatles are eligible, I'd probably nominate them.
Answer carefully, it's a trick question

Is Bob Dylan considered a rock band?

How stupid of me. I take back my earlier post. I just realized that the answer to this question is They Might Be Giants, and whoever comes in second, it is a very, very distant second.

Andrew Bird's lyrics are great.
If you don't like the music, I would understand.
But just look up some of his albums and read them. Awesome stuff.

I love Rage, but its definitely not for their lyrical content.

Thank you. When I opened this thread, I was coming to read everyone's comments making fun of their power-nerd lyrics. Instead all I read was praise. Right on, brother.
My picks:
Pink Floyd (Though they lose me with The Wall and really the Syd stuff)
The Band (Though it got weaker as they went along)
Rolling Stones
Steely Dan
Neil Young
CCR
Beatles
Tool
